Zhu Haowei, Deputy Director of the CIYEC; Oyaizu Yutaka, Chairman and General Manager of Mitsubishi Electric China; and Usui Masato, Japanese envoy to China, addressed the event at Tsinghua University, which was attended by around 100 young scholars, university teachers and students, as well as business representatives from both countries.

Experts and scholars from the National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation, Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the University of International Business and Economics, Mitsubishi Electric (China) Co., Ltd., Kanto Gakuin University of Japan and Japan's Ex Urban Research Institute were among those sharing practical experiences and academic research findings, with a focus on the theme of "Promoting Green and Low-Carbon Transformation to Support High-Quality Development".

It was widely agreed that there is now a global consensus for promoting green and low-carbon transformation in economic and social development to address climate change and that young people must play a pivotal role in accelerating this transformation.

Zhang Tiantong, head of a company involved in Anhui University's industry-academia integration projects, noted that digital technologies such as AI, big data and cloud computing are rapidly evolving and integrating into various aspects of economic and social development. These technologies are becoming increasingly crucial in driving green, low-carbon transformation, supporting industrial green development, and achieving carbon peak and neutrality goals, Zhang said.

Cai Luona, a partner at the environmental organization Xishi Magic Bag, said this event provided her with an opportunity to get a broader perspective on cutting-edge technologies for green and high-quality development, which will be beneficial for her future work.

Ni Yueyong, Director of Environmental Affairs at Mitsubishi Electric China, said this year’s Tsinghua event once again highlighted the foundational role universities play in education, science and talent development. It also provided young people with more opportunities for exchange and mutual learning in green research and technological innovation, Ni added.

As part of the event, participants visited relevant enterprises to gain practical insights into green and low-carbon development.
