CIYEC Delegation Visits South Korea
A delegation from the China International Youth Exchange Center (CIYEC) recently visited South Republic of Korea, upon invitation the Korea International Cultural Exchange Center, to participate in the China-SouthKorea Youth ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practice exchange activities. The delegation was headed by Zhu Haowei, Deputy Director of the CIYEC.
During the visit, the delegation attended the “ESG Management and the Role of Public Diplomacy in 2024” forum hosted by the Chinese Embassy in the Republic of Korea and the Korea International Cultural Exchange Center. Those delivered addresses at the forum included ZhuHaowei; Fang Kun, Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Korea; Kim Jin-pyo, former national assembly speaker of Korea; Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province; Park Jung and Kim Sung-won, National Assembly members of Korea.
Noting the vision of ESG in maximizing the comprehensive benefits of economic, social, and environmental factors to achieve sustainable development, the Chinese side said that China's approach to modernizationaligns with ESG principles. They also stressed the importance of fostering youth engagement in green development, encouraging young talents to participate in ESG initiatives, and nurturing them as future leaders who uphold sustainable values, adding that the effort will help both China and Korea practice ESG concepts, co-create an ESG ecosystem, and promote mutual understanding for the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations.
The Korean side highlighted the role of ESG management in achieving sustainable development on a global level, saying that governments and businesses in major countries are strengthening ESG regulations to address the global climate crisis, with public diplomacy playing a crucial role in fostering cooperation. They also said that Korea hopes to enhance mutual sharing of valuable experiences with China, and deepen cooperation in green and low-carbon field, in a bid to promote commonprosperity and contribute to global sustainable development.
At the forum, Kim Jin-pyo, on behalf of the Korean side, presented a plaque of merit to the CIYEC in appreciation of its long-standing efforts to promote the healthy development of China-Korea relations. Li Pan, a member of the All-China Youth Federation as well as manager of SHAANXI TOSUN Integrated Energy(Group) Co., Ltd, spoke on the role of multi-scenario new energy applications in driving green and high-quality economic development. Participants discussed the positive impact and interconnection between ESG management and public diplomacy. The forum was attended by more than 100 representatives from various sectors in both China and Korea.
During their visit to South Korea, members of the Chinese delegation also visited relevant enterprises, universities and youth organizations, engaging in discussions with South Korean representatives from areas such as culture, sports and green development.
