Chinese Olympic Champion Holds Dialogue with Foreign Students

Olympic swimming champion Luo Xuejuan, also an ambassador of the Hangzhou Asian Games’ bid, attended a dialogue with over 50 international students and representatives of international student organizations in Beijing on Nov 29.

The event was hosted by the China International Youth Exchange Center (CIYEC) with the support of KR Star Innovation. Attending foreign students came from Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Beihang University, the Central University of Finance and Economics, the Beijing Institute of Technology, the University of Science and Technology Beijing, Beijing Jiaotong University, and the University of International Business and Economics.

During the dialogue, Luo shared her experience as a bid ambassador and her participation in the organization of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, reviewed the profound changes and rapid development of China's economy and society over the past three decades, during which the country has held the Asian Games on three occasions. She gave an introduction to Chinese civilization and the nation’s time-honored historical culture embodied in the design of the torch and mascots of the 19th Asian Games, and shared touching stories behind the friendly exchanges between young people from different countries.

Additionally, drawing from her own journey to becoming an Olympic champion, Luo answered questions from students about how to remain true to their dreams in the face of difficulties and setbacks.

For their part, international students agreed that the attendance of the dialogue benefited them greatly, helped them grasp a better understanding of the 19th Asian Games and the spirit of sports, and enabled them to feel China's national strength as well as its commitment to building a diversified and harmonious world.

They said that they will cherish their learning and living experience in China, broaden their personal experience and continue to enhance themselves. They pledged to strive to promote cultural exchanges among young people, and to make contributions to the development of their respective countries, as well as Asia and the wider world.

Chen Peng, Deputy Director of the CIYEC, and the head of the International Students Department of the CIYEC also attended the event.
