CIYEC Holds 6th Liangma Silk Road International Forum

In a bid to deepen economic and trade cooperation between young entrepreneurs from China and Spain, the sixth Liangma Silk Road International Forum was held in Beijing on June 21.

Chen Peng, Deputy Director of the China International Youth Exchange Center (CIYEC), attended the event.

Noting that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China-Spain diplomatic ties, Chen said that Chinese and Spanish youths have deepened their friendship and actively carried out practical cooperation, injected impetus into the development of friendship between the two countries for the past 50 years.

China has been committed to promoting Chinese modernization through high-quality development, which will provide broader market and more opportunities of cooperation for all countries around the world including Spain, said Chen.

The CIYEC, with the support of the Embassy of Spain in China and Spanish enterprises, will continue to play its role as a bridge for practical cooperation between youths in both countries, strengthen industrial connection and expand fields of cooperation, providing professional services for young entrepreneurs from both countries to participate in the Belt and Road cooperation and benefiting young people from both countries with tangible results.

Alfonso Noriega Gomez, Chief Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Embassy of Spain in China, briefed other participants on Spain’s infrastructure construction, main industrial development, market access mechanisms, industrial incentive policies and talent advantages as well as the successful cases of Spain-China industrial investment.

Alfonso said that the industrial and value chains of China and Spain are highly complementary, and the two countries have huge space for cooperation in such areas as renewable energy, biomedicine, aerospace, and the automobile industry. He expressed the hope of working closely with the CIYEC to deepen cooperation in investment and trade and work together to open up third-party markets.

Noting that Spain will take the rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU in July this year, he said Spain will serve as a bridge for communication between young entrepreneurs from China and the EU, injecting new momentum into the sound development of EU-China relations.

Iñaki Legarda, CEO of Spain Fagor Automation Co., Ltd. in China, briefly introduced the development history of his parent company, Mondragon Corporation, and elaborated on the company’s development strategy in China, as well as its technological advantages and core products.

Noting that the Fagor Automation Co., Ltd., a high-end technological company in machine tool sector, has developed in China for decades, with business involvement in aerospace, automobiles and energy, he expressed his hope that his company will collaborate with more Chinese companies for technological achievement commercialization in China’s drive of high-quality development.

Participants also exchanged views on carrying out cooperation in such fields as clean energy, the automobile industry, international education, research and development center construction, and outdoor goods. Multiple cooperation intentions were reached at the forum.

Fifty participants, including the heads of the Economical Cooperation Department of the CIYEC and representatives of young entrepreneurs from China and Spain, attended the event.
