The CIYEC, in cooperation with the International Department of the CYLC Central Committee, organizes a symposium on improving China's International communication capacity and sharing the learning outcomes of Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy on Sept 8.

China's influence on international discourse has notably improved since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, and the country's efforts to create a favorable international public opinion environment have paid off with a pattern of international publicity taking shape, said guest lecturer Liu Xiaoming, China's special representative on Korean Peninsula affairs.

Liu stressed the need to improve the country's international communication and to develop a voice in international discourse that matches China's comprehensive national strength and international status.

Liu reiterated the importance of improving the country's capacity for engaging in international communication to present a true, multi-dimensional and panoramic view of China, and called for efforts to use new concepts, domains and expressions to better tell China's stories and the spiritual strength behind them.

He also shared a comprehensive understanding of international communication based on his half-century dedication to foreign affairs.

Fu Zhenbang, Vice President of the All-China Youth Federation, said that Liu's lecture was a wonderful tutorial to help participants learn more about Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy and further explore international communication by integrating theory with practice.

The symposium clarified the direction of the international communication work of youth in the new era, and encouraged young people to undertake their responsibilities and take active parts in developing major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics, Fu added.

Participants were made more aware of the efforts to introduce the Chinese culture abroad and to shape a reliable, admirable and respectable image of China, and to promote China's stand, reflecting the country's wisdom and approach as it plays a bigger role in global affairs, makes greater contributions to jointly solving problems of humanity with other countries, and accepts the resultant responsibility.

They also exchanged views with Liu on how to increase the appeal and effectiveness of the country's international communication and enlarge the circle of friends who understand China even while being tested by the turbulent international situation.
